Tonight we went to look at a new house. After the break in incident we felt like maybe we weren’t safe here anymore and decided to see if there were any other options. Finding a fully furnished house is very rare here, so when we heard of one almost the next day, we thought it was too good to be true.

The house is actually a duplex and is only 2-3 years old. It is available next week. The owner lives on the mainland so the home is very modern and looks normal! It has nice tile floors, great appliances in the kitchen (including a dishwasher!), a washer, dryer, and even a bathtub in the kids bathroom. Great ceiling fans and air conditioning as well. It has a security system, is fully fenced and even has barbed wire and a padlocked gate. Here are the downsides…it costs $400 a month more than what we are paying now. It is significantly smaller. There are only 3 bedrooms, so we’d have to do three girls in one room and three boys in another. The living space is much smaller. The kitchen table only seats four. Right now there is only one bed, but we could probably get the landlord to buy another couple of beds. The duplex is about 25 minutes away from the school which I have to drive to three times a day. It is also a longer commute for Michael meaning he’d get home later each day.

The house we are in right now is fine. I mean, we don’t love it, but it does the job! There is plenty of space for us and it is a great price. We’ve fixed it up and decorated it and have everything we need. We just don’t know how safe we are now. The duplex is gorgeous, but would be pretty cramped for our family, and is further away from everything.

What do you think?

  1. Safety and peace of mind are important! Whatever your decision, I hope you can have both.:) Good Luck!

  2. If you can’t move right away could you put new locks on th house?

  3. start praying! that is what I think. you will know what to do for your family!

  4. I can’t even vote in your poll….that would be such a hard decision to make! It would be hard to pass up a nice place with all those conveniences, but it would be hard to have a smaller place with those disadvantages. Tough decision!! Good luck with that!!!!

  5. It’s hard to say yes or no. Yes you could live cramped up and survive, (ESPECIALLY WITH AC) but will the increase in gas and rent be ok? It would probably be less to update security where you are I suppose if the Landlord is ok with a new fence, locks, etc. I think if you stay it’s worth it to buy all new doornobs that open with a bobbypin for inside and a good double deadbolt for doors leading out of the house. As well as alarms on all the windows. I’m sure you’ve already considered all of this, so I’m not really any help at all. If it would truly make you feel more safe, an increase in cost would be worth it. You can keep looking too, but knowing you, you will get the right answer, but thanks for letting me ramble on. =)
