Mount Alava hike with the girls!

I help plan activities once a fortnight (that’s every two weeks for you yanks) for the girls in our church aged 8-11. It has been so much fun getting to know these girls better. I am having a blast. We usually meet on Tuesday evenings for an hour, but this weekend we had a special activity planned…a hike up Mount Alava.

We were sure that we weren’t going to make it to the top. Michael and I hiked it once (click here to read about it) and it was beautiful, but HARD. I remember coming back down and my legs were just shaking, and then the next day I was limping everywhere I was so sore. Knowing this, we planned on only hiking halfway up the trail, having a picnic, and coming back down.

We had a wonderful morning. There were 6 girls that came altogether, and we had 5 adults (including someone who gave birth three weeks ago…AMAZING). One of the girls had a broken collar bone and did the hike with her arm in a sling. Other than a few unplanned toilet stops in the plants, it all went really smoothly, that is, until the sole of my hiking boot came off. That deserves a post in and of itself.

We had a really good time and the girls were troopers. They were in better shape than the adults. Fun times 🙂
